Gilmore Girls: Did Luke and Lorelai Get the Happy Ending They Deserve?
Jason and Lorelai | Gilmore Girls Wiki | Fandom
At its core, Gilmore Girls has always been a series about the relationship and love between a mother and daughter, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Over the course of seven seasons on The WB and The CW, as well as a mini-series revival on Netflix, Gilmore Girls explored the ups and downs of this relationship as it grew and changed over time, and as Rory developed into an adult and made her own share of mistakes that Lorelai never wanted her to make. Yet as much as the series focused on this central relationship, it also often veered off into different directions, especially when the romance department was concerned. As a teenager and eventual young adult, Rory had her fair share of romantic relationships — most of which are, in retrospect, fairly troubling if not outright insulting.
Jason and Lorelai
Unlike the constant fandom debate surrounding who Rory should have ended up with at the end of Gilmore Girls , there was never any question who her mom, Lorelai, belonged with. Fans pretty much unanimously agree Luke was her person from the moment he berated her over her coffee addiction in the very first episode. That's why it'll shock you to know Lorelai and Luke were never intended to get romantic when Amy Sherman-Palladino created the series — because Luke was never intended to exist. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , the writer revealed Luke was supposed to be a girl named Daisy! Didn't even change any of the dialogue because I'm that lazy.
The season concluded on May 17, , after 22 episodes. On May 17, , The WB announced that the show was renewed for a sixth season. The season picks up at the exact point the previous season ended, with Lorelai embarking on a relationship with Luke and Rory beginning an affair with married Dean. Having finally admitted they are separated, Richard and Emily formalise things by having Richard move into the pool house, with the girls splitting Friday nights between the two of them. Dean's marriage to Lindsay comes to an abrupt end when she finds a letter Rory wrote to him about their night together.
