When I was about to leave for college, my brother and dad looked at me with the same expression of unwavering envy before saying in unison: these will be the best four years of your life. It's now been a decade since I graduated. And while I know what my family meant when they said what they did, in truth, college was more of a fantasy land than a peak. I was kinda-sorta on my own, but still with the crutch of parental support. As a result, everything that happened during that time is heightened by this false sense of reality.
